Refers mainly to threads and yarns. Plied yarn: two or more threads, monofilaments or yarns, twisted together in one operation. Cabled yarn (or cord): yarn made of two or more components (at least one if which a plied yarn) twisted together in one or more operations. Can also refer to a woollen or cotton fabric, usually combed, made from high-torque yarns, giving it a distinctive strength and resistance to creases and a taut elastic hand.
